What the names mean
Four of the five brand names are ordinary Norwegian words, and they describe exactly what each brand does. They are left untranslated because they are the names people search for and book under.
- Nordmannsreiser – ‘travel for Norwegians’. Tailor-made holidays, planned from scratch
- Expert Reiser – ‘expert travel’. Corporate travel, run by people who answer the phone
- Temareiser Fredrikstad – ‘themed travel’, out of the town of Fredrikstad. Cultural journeys led by writers, historians and broadcasters
- Maxpulse – Travel for people who would rather move than lie down
- Messereiser – ‘trade fair travel’. Norwegian delegations at international trade fairs
A short history
The group has organised group travel since 1982, and Expert Reiser AS was incorporated in 1984. It has stayed in the same family throughout, and the third generation is active in the business today.
In the autumn of 2023 Expert Reiser adopted the Balslev name. The brand portfolio was consolidated at the same time: Amerikaspesialisten, Cruisereiser and Nordmanns-Reiser were merged into Nordmannsreiser, while Explore Travel and Feriespesialisten went into Temareiser Fredrikstad. Discover Norway was sold out of the group.
What is left is today’s structure of five brands, each with its own team, customers and telephone number.
What the protection schemes mean
Norwegian package travel is regulated, and the terms turn up in our material without much explanation because Norwegian readers know them. For anyone else:
The Norwegian Travel Guarantee Fund is a statutory body that holds security lodged by every Norwegian package travel organiser. If an organiser fails, the fund repatriates travellers and refunds money already paid. Membership is a legal requirement, not a badge.
The Package Travel Act is the Norwegian implementation of the EU Package Travel Directive. It gives the traveller a single legally responsible counterparty for the whole trip, whoever operates the individual parts of it.
